In the 2024 NFL season, Andy Reid will implement a new Patrick Mahomes approach with a secret weapon that will eclipse Kelce Travis

The Chiefs are looking for new ways to attack on offense

ANDY Reid is looking to switch things up on offense as a new NFL season dawns.

The Kansas City Chiefs head coach may have only just led his team to a third Super Bowl win in five years, but it seems Reid is always looking to keep opponents guessing.

It has been clear throughout the offseason that Kansas City was keen to bulk up on offense – specifically at wide receiver.

This was far from surprising given that last season they led the NFL in drops and finished just 13th in yards gained per pass attempt.

With this in mind, the Chiefs added veteran wideout Marquise Brown on a one-year deal which could net him up to $11 million.

They also traded up to select rapid receiver Xavier Worthy 32nd overall out of Texas.

Receivers Jaaron Hayek and Phillip Brooks were brought in as undrafted free agents.

While former Welsh international rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit was signed to play running back and potentially wideout.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes joked that Reid was “forcing me to push the ball down the field.”

“If I don’t, he throws little jabs at me like, ‘Oh, you want to throw the check down here?’” he added.

“I’m like, ‘I got you, Coach; we’re going to push it.’ It has been fun.”

Leaning more on the deep ball with players like Brown and Worthy would help decrease their heavy reliance on veteran tight end Travis Kelce in the passing game.

Patrick Mahomes throws ‘beautiful spiral’ to Rashee Rice in Chiefs minicamp as receiver returns from off-season problems

The now 34-year-old has led the Chiefs in receiving yards for the last two seasons, since the departure of speedy wideout Tyreek Hill.

Evidence of Reid’s desire to spread the ball has made its way to X, formerly known as Twitter, where clips of both Brown and second-year receiver Rashee Rice going deep recently made the rounds.

But this isn’t the first time Mahomes has hinted at the team’s aim to take some of the pressure off of Kelce.

“We’ve done a great job of mastering the intermediate and short stuff, but we want to get back to having the [deep game] as well,” he said in May.

And it seems that the reshaped receivers room has left a positive impression on Mahomes.

“I think it’s shaping up really well,” he said of the wideout corps.

“I thought ‘Hollywood’ (Brown) did a great job coming in and being prepared and learning really fast and being able to go out there and make plays.”

Mahomes also singled out the performances of Rice, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson, adding that he was “excited” to get more reps in with Worthy later this summer.

With mandatory minicamp now completed, the Chiefs will enjoy a break before returning for training camp some time in mid to late July.
