“In the history books, all the other records will be there” – When Cristiano Ronaldo commented on whether Lionel Messi’s World Cup victory would settle the GOAT debate.
Cristiano Ronaldo has given his clear view on whether Leo Messi’s World Cup victory settles the GOAT debate.
Lionel Messi played very well during the World Cup, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists in 7 matches. The Argentine striker also received the tournament’s Best Player award.
For many, Messi settled the GOAT debate with Cristiano Ronaldo with victory and also cemented his position as the greatest footballer of all time. However, when talking about this topic, CR7 disagrees and affirms that there will always be some people who like him more than Messi.
“Even if I win the World Cup, it will still continue,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said in an interview with Sport Bibble.
“Some people like me more, some like me less. Just like in life, some like blondes, some like brunettes. I always have to show what I’ve got “I can do it from year to year. I really want to win this tournament,” he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo later admitted that winning the World Cup would be a dream come true for him but insisted failing to do so would not define his legacy.
“I am ambitious but if you told me I wouldn’t win any more tournaments I would still be happy for everything I have won. In the history books, all the other records will be there. But clearly, a World Cup already on the shelf wouldn’t be bad. That would be a dream,” he added.
The next World Cup will be held in 2026. It will be co-hosted by three North American countries, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
