In the early morning of March 12 (Vietnam time), Al-Nassr welcomed Al-Ain in the second leg of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League quarter-finals. Losing by 1 goal after the first leg in the UAE is not too big for Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates to be able to come back.
Even though they were playing at home, it seemed that Al-Nassr’s haste caused them to not have the position and ability to finish as expected.
In contrast, the away team only needed 6 shots in the first half to score 2 goals in the 28th and 45th minutes.
Two more goals came from the home team to equalize the score at 3-3, before each team scored one more goal in extra time to make the final score 4-4.
In the penalty shootout, Al-Nassr had only Ronaldo succeed, while Marcelo Brozovic, Alex Telles and Otavio all missed. All 3 Al-Ain players kicked successfully so the score in the penalty shootout was 3-1.
A lot of criticism was directed at Ronaldo’s teammates for taking the penalty so poorly, however, CR7 also had to blame himself for missing an opportunity in a very unbelievable way.
If it had been a goal, Al-Nassr’s situation would have been different.
It was the 61st minute, the score was 2-2, in an attack on the right wing, the ball was passed in, an Al-Nassr player shot the shot, goalkeeper Khalid Eisa jumped to block it, the ball fell to Ronaldo’s feet. The distance from the goal is only about 3m and completely empty.
However, the superstar who won the Golden Ball five times missed the goal. The 39-year-old Portuguese striker held his head with a shocked expression. He was also shocked at that unbelievable miss.
Ronaldo of course became the subject of gossip on social networks after that.
On page X, an account commented: “No kidding, this is one of the worst misses I’ve ever seen in my life”.
Another commented: “Probably the worst miss by CR7 that I can recall”.
Or as another person exclaimed: “Even GOAT misses opportunities like this”.
With the loss on penalties, Al-Nassr was eliminated from the AFC Champions League. After the match, Ronaldo clasped his hands to apologize to the home team’s fans.
Currently, they are also 12 points behind Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League after 23 rounds. Ronaldo and his teammates now only hope to enter the King’s Cup (in the semi-finals) and Super Cup (meet Al-Hilal) to Hopefully we don’t have to go through the season empty-handed.
