Upon discovering a small puppy in a cardboard box on his porch in Antigua, a veterinarian recognized her as something extraordinary. The puppy’s consistent squint and furrowed brow deeply touched his heart.
Taking action, the veterinarian reached out to the local rescue organization “Dogs and Cats of Antigua,” which took in the stray and christened her Faith. Despite her hunger and blindness, they held onto the belief that they could offer her another chance at happiness.
Faith found herself under the care of a foster mother, Kate Venezia, who recounted to The Dodo, “Typically, a special needs dog like Faith would be euthanized on the islands due to the scarcity of adopters and insufficient funds for care.” She added, “Antigua Dogs and Cats provided her with foster care, covered her veterinary expenses, and even worked to secure authorities’ permission for her early transportation to the US, where she could receive the necessary medical attention.”
Upon her arrival at Venezia’s residence, Faith’s indomitable spirit left a strong impression. “She displayed remarkable adeptness in navigating the house,” Venezia shared. “Despite her boldness, she relied on her sense of smell and touch to maneuver her way around.”
Faith cleverly employed her ears and nose to traverse Venezia’s home, consistently finding her cherished spot: right atop her foster mother’s feet. “She adored people and sought to be near me all the time,” Venezia elaborated. “She can sense when I’m approaching. She’ll lift her nose in the air to catch my scent. If she detects commotion in another room, she hastens over to investigate.”
Following a thorough assessment at the NYC-based Animal Haven rescue, Faith was deemed ready to be placed in her permanent home. The rescue’s Facebook post, featuring her captivating photos, led to a flood of adoption applications.
Faith’s journey has spanned great distances to secure her safety, and there’s little doubt that this endearing little puppy will find a companion who will remain steadfastly at her side.
