L’ Jarius Sneed, the cornerback of the Kansas City Chiefs has triggered a controversy in the offseason. This season, the Chiefs’ defense played a pivotal role in landing them another Super Bowl win. The cornerback Sneed could ask for the credit behind this success.
However, it looks like the CB is unhappy with the management. He believes that he deserves more than what he is getting. The player’s contract is on the verge of expiring and he is slated to become a free agent in the coming season.
Considering all these, the CB shared his agony against the management. He had a strong message for the team’s manager in the podcast Up and Adams Show. The CB said:
The CB had a great time on the gridiron as he recorded 78 tackles. In addition, the CB broke up 14 passes. Sneed also had a pair of interceptions as well. The CB contributed significantly to the team’s performance against big names like Tyreek Hill, Josh Allen, and Brock Purdy. The CB hence can make a claim on getting a good contract.
The trouble is not something new for the Chiefs. They have earlier faced some problems regarding extending the players’ contracts. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Chiefs team found itself in trouble with the extension of Chris Jones’ contract. Jones, after contributing significantly to the team’s success last season, asked for a new contract which the Chiefs were reluctant to give. Frustrated Jones did not even play in the first few games. Nevertheless, the player later resolved all issues and came back to the team. He had a vital role in this season’s performance as well.
What can the Chiefs do to keep L’Jarius Sneed in the squad?
The Kansas City Chiefs have two options to keep L’Jarius Sneed in the team. They can use the franchise tag on the player. It will keep him for one more year. In addition, the Chiefs will have one more year to find a path for a multi-year contract with the CB. If the Chiefs use this, then the projected value will fall around 18.8 million.
There is another way to have a new contract with the CB. But that will include a long-term contract with a valuation of $16.7 million. This will also help them to adjust their market cap.
It is to be seen whether the team offers any of these two to Sneed. Or they can release him as a free agent and go for some other defender.
